SEO for Nova Scotia Businesses

The short version
We are Edmonton based and work remotely with businesses across Nova Scotia, from Halifax, which grew 9.1 percent in the 2021 census, to Cape Breton and Truro. Nova Scotia's health professions are moving to new rules in phases, and one of the new standards covers AI written content.
This page covers that rule, the data storage question many Nova Scotia owners ask about, the accessibility standards on their way, and how we do SEO for Nova Scotia businesses.
How we work
Working on Atlantic time
Nova Scotia is on Atlantic time, so we plan calls for your morning or early afternoon.
Between calls, we work by email and shared documents, and you get a plain report each month.
What is different in Nova Scotia
Privacy and the data storage question
PIPEDA covers most Nova Scotia businesses. For clinics, the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) covers regulated health professionals and pharmacies as custodians, overseen by the OIPC Nova Scotia.
- You may have heard that Nova Scotia requires data to stay in Canada. That is PIIDPA, which applies to public bodies and their contractors, not private businesses, and it is repealed April 1, 2027.
- Your clinic's PHIA duties still apply to any health information a form collects, so we keep booking forms short.
- We keep health questions off general contact forms.
Advertising rules for Nova Scotia clinics
Nova Scotia's Regulated Health Professions Act (2023) is bringing professions under new rules in phases.
-
Chiropractors
The NS Chiropractic and Naturopathic Regulator's Professional Communications standard (May 27, 2026) asks for factual, verifiable content with no superiority claims and no guarantees. Testimonials need written consent, promotional fees are allowed with conditions, and AI generated content must be reviewed and disclosed.
NS Chiropractic and Naturopathic Regulator SEO for Chiropractors
-
Pharmacies
The NS Pharmacy Regulator bans "professional", "trusted", "prompt" and "cheap", comparisons, and ads for prescription only drugs. Inducements must be offered to all patients, not only new ones.
-
Massage therapists
Not regulated by a college. The Massage Therapist Titles Protection Act protects the title through prescribed associations.
-
Audiologists and hearing aid dealers
The NS Regulator of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology asks for accurate advertising with no superiority claims, and bundled packages must state the refund policy. Hearing aid dealers are licensed under the Direct Sellers' Regulation Act, with a $20,000 bond.
-
Dentists
The NS Regulator of Dentistry and Dental Assisting bans testimonials, comparisons, giveaways, contests and free or discounted services, except pro bono or low income care.
What this means for our work: if AI helps draft any of your chiropractic content, we flag it so you can review it and disclose it as the standard requires. Dental pages stay free of offers, and pharmacy promotions apply to every patient.
Accessibility and online sales
Nova Scotia's Accessibility Act aims for an accessible province by 2030. The Built Environment standard took effect April 1, 2026 for new construction, a goods and services standard is expected around 2027, and an information and communication standard around 2028 or 2029. There is no website standard yet, so building accessible pages now saves a rebuild later.
For online purchases of $50 or more, the Internet Sales Contract Regulations require disclosure, a chance to accept or decline, a copy of the contract and cancellation rights. There is no French requirement for private businesses, and about 3% of Nova Scotians have French as their first official language.
Nova Scotia listings and links
Search your record in the Registry of Joint Stock Companies and make sure it matches your Google profile and website.
If you are a Halifax business, a Halifax Chamber of Commerce listing is one more consistent citation.

FAQ
Nova Scotia questions
Does a Nova Scotia business have to keep website data in Canada?
Not as a private business. PIIDPA, the Canada only storage law, applies to public bodies and their contractors, and it is repealed April 1, 2027. Health information duties under PHIA still apply to clinics.
Can Nova Scotia chiropractors use AI to write their content?
Under the NS Chiropractic and Naturopathic Regulator standard of May 27, 2026, AI generated content must be reviewed and disclosed.
Can a Nova Scotia dental office advertise free or discounted services?
No, except pro bono or low income care. The NS Regulator of Dentistry and Dental Assisting also bans testimonials, comparisons, giveaways and contests.
Does my Nova Scotia website have to be accessible?
There is no website standard yet. An information and communication standard is expected around 2028 or 2029, so accessible pages built now won't need a rebuild later.
How much does SEO cost for a Nova Scotia business?
Ongoing SEO starts at $500 a month for any business, on the site you already have or one we build. Websites with SEO built in start at $499, the same price as in Alberta.
